Privacy policy

HomeTek is software for home-service businesses: quotes, scheduling, crews, invoices and payments. This policy explains what information we handle, why, and the choices you have. It covers gethometek.com, the HomeTek app, and the pages we host for our customers' clients (quote, invoice, payment and booking links).
Two kinds of people
Operators are the businesses that sign up for HomeTek, and the people on their team. Clients are the operator's own customers, who receive quotes and invoices and book work through HomeTek pages.
When an operator puts a client's details into HomeTek, the operator decides what is collected and how it is used. We process that information on the operator's behalf. If you are a client with a question about your information, contact the business you work with first; we will help them respond.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email address, business name and sign-in information for operators and their team.
- Business records: what operators enter or import, such as client names, emails, phone numbers, service addresses, quotes, jobs, visits, notes, photos, checklists, signatures and invoices.
- Payment records: amounts, tips, dates and the type and last four digits of a card or bank account. Card and bank details are entered directly with Stripe and never reach HomeTek's servers.
- Messages: the emails and texts HomeTek sends for an operator (for example a quote, an invoice or a visit reminder), with a log of when they were sent.
- Technical data: basic logs such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, used to run and secure the service.
How we use it
- To provide HomeTek: show records, send quotes and invoices, take payments, schedule visits and send reminders.
- To keep accounts secure and prevent fraud and abuse.
- To support operators when they ask for help.
- To improve the product, using aggregate patterns rather than individual client records.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use operators' client lists to market to those clients.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run HomeTek. Each receives only what it needs for its job:
- Stripe, for card and bank payments, through the operator's own Stripe account.
- WorkOS, for sign-in.
- Supabase, for our database and file storage.
- Railway, for hosting.
- Resend, for sending email.
- A text-message provider (Telnyx), to deliver appointment reminders and updates to people who agreed to receive them.
- OpenStreetMap services, to turn service addresses into map locations.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy will continue to apply.
Text messages
HomeTek sends text messages on behalf of the businesses that use it, such as appointment reminders and updates about your service. We only text you if you agreed to it when you gave the business your mobile number: by ticking the box on their request form, or by telling the business you agree, which they record in HomeTek. Agreeing to texts is never required to request a quote or book a service.
- Message frequency varies with your appointments.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts from that business. Each business on HomeTek texts from its own number. Reply START to receive them again.
- Reply HELP for help, or email us at the address below.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. We share your number only with our text-message provider, to deliver the messages you agreed to.
How long we keep it
We keep information while an operator's account is open. When an account is closed we delete or anonymize its records within 90 days, except where we must keep payment and tax records for longer by law.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by account and by role, and customer-facing links use unguessable tokens. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
Your choices
Operators can view, correct or delete their records in the app, and can ask us for a full export. Clients can ask the business they work with, or contact us and we will pass the request on. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights to access, correct or delete your information; we will honor those requests as the law requires.
Children
HomeTek is for businesses and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and we will tell operators by email before material changes take effect.
